Linda Phelps
I started china painting in 1983, following in my mother's footsteps. Picking up mom's brushes and palette, I began to develop my own talents as a porcelain artist. Now I work out of my in-home studio/gallery, built as my year 2000 project.
"Wisteria Studio" is for me a joyful work space, open to public Wednesday,Thursday,Friday noon - 4:00 pm or by appointment.
My porcelain work includes.....North American traditional; European floral; gilt & raised paste techniques and portraits. I also do free-form porcelain design, watercolour & oil on canvas.
My experiments have taken me into freeform design in porcelain, and also for a search to recapture the raised paste base for gold work that I enjoy doing. Recent government restrictions have seriously impaired our paint and products by the removal of lead content.
My most recent free-form porcelain designs have been a comfortable challenge, that I have enjoyed very much. The translucence of these new works of art is most appealing, especially the pieces that can be used as light conduits.
It was also an interesting experience to work for the film industry and do the porcelain works for "Meg" that were shown in the 1994 film "Little Women".
I have studied with a number of well known porcelain teachers from Canada, U.S.A. and South America but have developed & refined my own individual style of painting on fine porcelain.
Private collectors reach across Canada and the U.S.A., many as far away as Japan, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Holland & Germany.
